If you like pizza, suffice it to say you’ll have no shortage of options in Denville. With eleven (11!!) places that sell pizza to varying degrees, you’ll encounter a wide variety of everything from thin and crispy and baked in a brick oven, to tasty combinations you may never have considered before now.

We invited a few friends to our office one afternoon and conducted an informal and fun taste testing to see who measured up and what they delivered. We ordered a cheese slice from every restaurant that you could walk in and just order a slice from (for reference, that’s Casa D Pizza, Mancino’s, Dante’s, Il Torrente, Jimmy Tomato’s, and Denville Pizza). And then we ordered pies from the restaurants that don’t have grab-and-go cheese slices (Bensi, That’s Amore, and La Cucina). And when ordering these pies, we went for unusual combinations to really push the limits.
Let’s start with the cheese slices.
When it comes to taste testing, this is really subjective. Some are looking for more cheese, some want a robust sauce, some are craving an awesome cheese pull … and some just want the old school slice that they grew up having as a kid on Pizza Day at school. The six we tried ranged in size, price, and even the type of pizza boxes the restaurant uses!
Now for the something special…
We tried the White Pizza from Bensi (a bit on the smaller side, but unusual and tasty), the Pizza Gorgonzola from La Cucina (such a deliciously unique bite) and the Salsiccia pie from That’s Amore (a little bit of a kick and very filling), and while they all got a thumbs up around the room, the clear favorite by a landslide was the Pizza Gorgonzola pie. Seriously if you like little bites of a strong cheese punctuated by crispy bacon, get this pronto.
While it may seem like we have the lion’s share of pizza joints in town, what we confirmed during our taste testing is how different they all really are.
