Angela Osorio, her husband Chris, and their Floriography shop have brought beauty to Broadway since it opened. Whether it’s providing beautiful arrangements for small and large events, catering to walk-in clientele, or holding classes in her shop, she is a welcome addition to our downtown community.
What is the story behind Floriography?
Floriography Designs started in 2009. When I was a little girl, I fell in love with flowers. I come from the land of flowers, Colombia. I grew up seeing beautiful flowers everywhere appreciating the colors and the smell of them. During my college years, out of serendipity, a great floral designer mentored me and taught me how to design beautiful flowers and arrangements.
After I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts from Fairleigh Dickinson University, I had the purpose to create my own business and become an entrepreneur. I started from my one bedroom apartment and then moved into my parents’ garage. Then after, I saw the business was launching and growing with beautiful weddings and events. Then I rented the barn on Route 46 in Rockaway, and that has been our location for 11 years. Today it is our studio and warehouse. In 2018, we were looking for a beautiful town and a place to create our boutique and fell in love with Denville. We decided to open our second branch and expand our services.
We specialize in Weddings and Events now that we opened our Boutique here in Denville, and we are expanding our services to our everyday customers with beautiful flowers for their home, deliveries for someone special, providing unique floral decor, and floral design classes with our growing, amazing team of floral designers. We have a passion for floral design, creativity, and nature!
Has your background and career always been focused on flowers?
I have a background in studio arts, painting, sculpting, color theory, and interior design. I have had the pleasure to blend the science of art with the Floral Design artistry.
How did you choose Denville as the place to open up your shop?
It was easy, Denville got to our heart and we fell in love with Denville. When Chris, my husband, and I were dating, we always dreamed about having a business in this beautiful town! The people in the town, the music playing, the atmosphere and the beauty of the town is one of a kind, and represents the essence of small town America. We wanted to have our business here in Denville for that and a thousand reasons more!
What is your favorite part about being downtown?
The people in Denville. They are always walking, shopping, enjoying life with their families, friends and their pets. The unique shops, restaurants and environment makes downtown Denville a one of a kind experience for our residents and visitors from other towns. Denville is an example to follow.
What is your favorite meal in town?
Denville is well known for many beautiful restaurants, and we have frequented many of them and we enjoy them. Some of our favorites are Sergios (Sandwich #8), Summit and Main (Mountain Lakes Sandwich – yummy!), Dante’s (Margherita Pizza – excellent), coffee at Mara’s with a Carrot Cupcake, and breakfast at Denville Diner (Southwest Omelette is the kickstart of the day!).
How have you pivoted your business and services during the pandemic?
We have learned a lot during the pandemic. We turned it around into positive since our core was weddings and events. Since we were not able to produce them as much, we opened our beautiful boutique to the public. It has been a pleasure to create for everyday floral design, meeting the people of Denville, and creating for their birthdays, home deliveries, and showing them our beautiful silk collection of florals. We enjoy creating floral arrangements with our people in Denville!
We love your outside store window creations and we know a lot of people are wondering – do you water them regularly? How do you keep them looking so beautiful?
Thank you for loving the floral waterfall! There is a secret behind it, it is Chris. He has been watering the floral waterfall for the summer and fall. Every morning we come and water it and check the plants to see if they are in good shape. We enjoy when people are attracted to it, take pictures, and enjoy the flowers. We love that it’s attracting people to Denville knowing that there is a lot of creativity here!
What advice would you give someone thinking about starting their own business?
The best advice to somebody who would like to start a business is to know in your heart what is your real true passion. The map to the road will start forming itself once you start the journey with passion and focus on your goal. Love what you do. You will put hard work into it and finally enjoy creating your business and making it grow successfully.
What does the next year look like for you?
