Downtown Denville has a unique mix of retail establishments, and this newest addition is no exception. Bluebird by Bullet Boots recently opened its doors on Broadway and offers a variety of clothing and accessory items with a creative country western flair. Owned by a mother daughter team, the store is a recent relocation from the Rockaway Mall…let’s get to know them!
For those not familiar with the Bullet Boots brand, what can a new customer expect?
We are a southern style boutique that we like to describe as boho-glam! We sell handmade leather western boots, trendy apparel and eye-catching accessories. We are very well known for our upcycled authentic designer products including Louis Vuitton and Gucci. We also support small batch makers and like to bring in their unique items. Our boutique is more than a place to shop, it’s an experience!
How long have you been in business and how did you get started?
We have been in business for 2 years now. As a mama and daughter, we always dreamed of owning a boutique together and after visiting Tennessee, we just fell in love and decided to bring that southern flare and blinged-out boots back home to New Jersey! With our backgrounds in fashion and interior design, we combined our strengths and creativity to create Bullet Boots.
We’re glad you chose downtown Denville for your new location! What prompted the move from the mall?
The mall was a wonderful opportunity that allowed us to expand our clientele and explore new products, but we were surrounded by corporate retail stores and not seen as a small business, which was a downfall especially during a pandemic. For months, we searched for a new location and Denville felt like home.
What is your favorite part of owning your store?
We love being able to express our creativity and designing new things from store decor to window displays. We also love the merchandising perspective and finding items that we have never seen before.
What words of wisdom would you give a new business owner that you wish you knew when you started?
Opening a business is challenging and it will feel like a roll-coaster ride of emotions. Don’t give up when times get rough. We experienced this challenge many times and found ways to reinvent our business until we found what works. Don’t let others influence your ideas and go with your gut instinct.
What are you most excited about for 2021?
We are definitely most excited for a new beginning in a beautiful town and to be surrounded by other wonderful small businesses. We also are looking forward to being a part of all the downtown Denville events!
What do you want people to know most about you and your store?
Our store is for all ages and genders. We are a family friendly environment and like to create a welcoming and fun atmosphere. Bullet Boots was named while sipping on a good Ol’ Bulleit bourbon old fashioned, which, by the way, is our favorite drink. Then during the pandemic we fought to stay in business and put our minds together and created our traveling boutique, Bluebird, where we were able to attend outdoor events and to allow our customers to shop safely right in the comfort of their own private events. Bluebird symbolizes prosperity and luck and that’s why we decided to carry the name Bluebird over to Denville.
